How long shall I roam the earth, with no resting place,

and no return from my journey through the lands?

As though, in this world, I were a speck in an eye,

moving to and fro within its reaches and roaming.

I watch there for rain's lightning, yet it brings no rain,

and I seek out meadowland, yet it is barren.

And from life's burdens and its misery there is no

deliverance except through death—and it is terrifying.
