حتَّى مَتى أنا شائِمٌ
إِيماضَthe flickering of بارِقةٍlightning خَلُوبِdeceptive
إِيماضَ بارِقةٍ خَلُوبِ
How long shall I keep watching
the flicker of deceptive lightning?
وإِلامَand until when ألقَىI meet اللاّئِميthe reproachers (word continues)
وإِلامَ ألقَى اللاّئِمي
نَcompletion of 'the reproachers' عَليكَover you بالوجهِwith the face القَطوبِscowling
نَ عَليكَ بالوجهِ القَطوبِ
And how long shall I meet those who reproach me
over you, with a scowling face,
وأعلِّلُand I soothe النفسَthe soul العليailing (word continues)
وأعلِّلُ النفسَ العلي
لَةَcompletion of 'ailing' فيكَin you بالأملِwith hope الكذوبِfalse
لَةَ فيكَ بالأملِ الكذوبِ
and soothe my ailing soul
with false hope in you,
وأقولُand I say تُصلِحكwill set you right الخطوthe hardships (word continues)
وأقولُ تُصلِحك الخطو
بُcompletion of 'the hardships' وأنتwhile you منamong بعضِsome of الخُطوبِthe hardships
بُ وأنت من بعضِ الخُطوبِ
and say, 'Hardships will set you right,'
though you yourself are one of those hardships?
