صَدّhe shunned عَنّيaway from me وأعرَضَاand turned away
صَدّ عَنّي وأعرَضَا
وتَناسىand feigned forgetting الذيwhat مَضَىhad passed
وتَناسى الذي مَضَى
He shunned me and turned away,
and feigned forgetting what had passed.
واستَمَرَّand persisted الصّدودُthe shunning واِنand … (begins the word 'was severed')
واستَمَرَّ الصّدودُ واِن
قَطعَwas severed (completes the preceding fragment) الوصلُthe bond وانْقَضَىand ended
قَطعَ الوصلُ وانْقَضَى
His shunning persisted, and
the bond was severed and came to an end.
صرَّحَmade explicit الانَnow هجرُهُhis estrangement
صرَّحَ الانَ هجرُهُ
لِيto me بماabout what كانit had عَرَّضَاhinted at
لِي بما كان عَرَّضَا
His estrangement has now made plain
to me what it had only hinted at.
وإذاand whenever استُعْطِفَis entreated المُلوthe fickle one (word continues)
وإذا استُعْطِفَ المُلو
لُcompletion of 'the fickle one' تجنَّىfinds fault without cause وأَعرضَاand turns away
لُ تجنَّى وأَعرضَا
And whenever the fickle one is entreated,
he finds fault without cause and turns away.
