فما أنت إلا الشمس لولاك لم تزل

على مصر ظلماء الضلالة سرمدا

For you are none other than the sun; without you, there would remain

You are nothing less than the sun, without you

Over Egypt the darkness of misguidance forever.

The darkness of misguidance would have remained forever upon Egypt

وكان بها طغيان فرعون لم يزل

وكان بها طغيان فرعون لم يزل

كما كان لما أن طغا وتمردا

كما كان لما أن طغا وتمردا

And Pharaoh’s tyranny there had endured,

And the tyranny of the Pharaoh would have remained

Just as it was when he transgressed and rebelled.

As it was when he rebelled and transgressed

فبصرتهم بعد الغواية والعمى

فبصرتهم بعد الغواية والعمى

وأرشدتهم تحت الضلال إلى الهدى

وأرشدتهم تحت الضلال إلى الهدى

So you gave them sight after error and blindness,

So you made them see after delusion and blindness

And, while they were under error’s sway, you led them to right guidance.

And guided them under misguidance to the right path
