Abu al-Fawaris, nothing I have suffered at the hands of my time

is harsher than its restraining my hand from generosity.

رأى سماحي بمنذور تجانف لي

It saw my liberality with a pledged gift it had spared me,

and my generosity with it, so it swept away all I possessed.
