بِيَ اليأَسُ أَوْ داءُ الهُيامِ شَرِبْتُهُ

بِيَ اليأَسُ أَوْ داءُ الهُيامِ شَرِبْتُهُ

فَإيّاكَ عنّي لا يَكُنْ بكَ ما بِيا

فَإيّاكَ عنّي لا يَكُنْ بكَ ما بِيا

Despair afflicts me—or the malady of love-madness, which I have drunk.

Despair overcomes me, or love's malady, I've drunk

So beware of me, lest what afflicts me afflict you.

So do not let what's in me be in you

فما زادَني النَّاهونَ إِلاَّ صبابةً

فما زادَني النَّاهونَ إِلاَّ صبابةً

ولا كَثْرَةُ الواشينَ إِلاّ تمادِيا

ولا كَثْرَةُ الواشينَ إِلاّ تمادِيا

For those who bid me desist have only increased my longing,

For counselors increased naught in me but confusion

and the multitude of slanderers has only made me persist all the more.

And multitude of gossips only excess
