حَصى المَعزاءُ مِن كَنَفَي حَقيلِ
Toward Hakam, her two footpads tossed back and forth
To a ruler whose kingdom fate decreed
the pebbles of the stony ground from both sides of Haqil.
The goat herd counted from my arms' embrace
وَلَمand did not أَسأَلكِI ask you (feminine) شَيئاًanything قَبلَbefore هاتيthis

وَلَكِنّي عَلى أَثَرِ الدَليلِ

مَلامَتُها عَلى دَلٍّ جَميلِ
She used not to reproach me; then I was kept awake
And she did not blame so she saddened me
by her reproach, offered with lovely coyness.
Her blame for following a beautiful guide

And she consoled herself and folded her belly
And she harbored grief and folded her concern
around pure water and ash-baked bread.
