إِنَّما السِحرُ عِندَ زُرقِ العُيونِ
The blue-eyed woman from Mārūn enchanted me.
Enchantment dwells only in blue eyes.

She enchanted me with her neck and spaced teeth,
and with a radiant, finely chiseled face,

like daisies on a sandy patch swept
by a wind from skies of steady rain and gloom.

She checks the steadfast heart; and there is solace
in her teeth's coolness for the sorrowful one's anguish.

by plucking—a line like a written nūn.

Then she shot at me and felled me with an arrow
that pierced my heart after piercing the aorta.

And my own hands shot arrows at her—
how can I hunt a wary quarry in fortresses?
