ياO أَهلَpeople of بابِلBabylon ماnot نَفِستُI envied عَليكُمُyou
يا أَهلَ بابِل ما نَفِستُ عَليكُمُ
مِنof عَيشُكُمyour life إِلّاexcept ثَلاثَthree خِلالِfeatures
مِن عَيشُكُم إِلّا ثَلاثَ خِلالِ
O people of Babylon, I have envied you nothing
O people of Babylon, I do not envy you
In your life save three things:
Anything of your life except three things:
ماءَwater of الفُراتِthe Euphrates وَطيبَand the sweetness of لَيلٍa night بارِدٍcool
ماءَ الفُراتِ وَطيبَ لَيلٍ بارِدٍ
وَسَماعَand listening to مُنشِدَتَينِtwo female singers لِاِبنِof Ibn هِلالِHilal
وَسَماعَ مُنشِدَتَينِ لِاِبنِ هِلالِ
The Euphrates’ water, the sweetness of a cool night,
The water of the Euphrates, a fine cool night,
And listening to Ibn Hilal’s two female singers.
And listening to two singing girls sing for Ibn Hilal.
