بِنَفسِيَ مَن أَشتَكي حُبَّهُ

بِنَفسِيَ مَن أَشتَكي حُبَّهُ

وَمَن إِن شَكا الحُبَّ لَم يَكذِبِ

وَمَن إِن شَكا الحُبَّ لَم يَكذِبِ

May my life ransom the one whose love I lament,

Myself I blame for his love,

and the one who, if he complains of love, does not lie;

And if love blames, it does not lie,

وَمَن إِن تَسَخَّطَ أَعتَبتُهُ

وَمَن إِن تَسَخَّطَ أَعتَبتُهُ

وَإِن يَرَني ساخِطاً يُعتِبِ

وَإِن يَرَني ساخِطاً يُعتِبِ

and the one whom I appease if he grows displeased,

And if it is indignant, I appease it,

and if he sees me displeased, he appeases me;

And if it sees me angry, it is displeased.

وَمَن لا أُبالي رِضا غَيرِهِ

وَمَن لا أُبالي رِضا غَيرِهِ

إِذا هُوَ سُرَّ وَلَم يَغضَبِ

إِذا هُوَ سُرَّ وَلَم يَغضَبِ

and the one for whom I care nothing for anyone else's approval,

He who cares not if others are pleased

if he is pleased and does not grow angry;

When he is happy and not angry,

وَمَن لا يُطيعُ بِنا أَهلَهُ

وَمَن لا يُطيعُ بِنا أَهلَهُ

وَمَن قَد عَصَيتُ لَهُ أَقرَبي

وَمَن قَد عَصَيتُ لَهُ أَقرَبي

and the one who does not obey his family concerning us,

He who does not obey his family because of us

and the one for whose sake I have disobeyed my closest kin;

And whom I have disobeyed my nearest kin,

وَمَن لَو نَهانِيَ مِن حُبِّهِ

وَمَن لَو نَهانِيَ مِن حُبِّهِ

عَنِ الماءِ عَطشانَ لَم أَشرَبِ

عَنِ الماءِ عَطشانَ لَم أَشرَبِ

and the one for love of whom, were he to forbid me

And if it prohibited me from its love,

water while thirsty, I would not drink;

Thirsty, I would not drink water,

وَمَن لا سِلاحَ لَهُ يُتَّقى

وَمَن لا سِلاحَ لَهُ يُتَّقى

وَإِن هُوَ نوزِلَ لَم يُغلَبِ

وَإِن هُوَ نوزِلَ لَم يُغلَبِ

and the one who has no weapon to be feared,

And he who has no arms to be feared

yet if challenged to combat, he is not defeated.

And if he attacks, he will not be defeated.
