طافَت بِنا شَمسٌ عِشاءً وَمَن رَأى

طافَت بِنا شَمسٌ عِشاءً وَمَن رَأى

مِنَ الناسِ شَمساً بِالعِشاءِ تَطوفُ

مِنَ الناسِ شَمساً بِالعِشاءِ تَطوفُ

A sun came round to us at night—and who has seen

The evening sun shone on us, who else

among people a sun that goes about at night?

Has seen the sun circling in the evening?

أَبو أُمِّها أَوفى قُرَيشٍ بِذِمَّةٍ

أَبو أُمِّها أَوفى قُرَيشٍ بِذِمَّةٍ

وَأَعمامُها إِما نَسَبتَ ثَقيفُ

وَأَعمامُها إِما نَسَبتَ ثَقيفُ

Her mother's father is the most faithful of Quraysh in keeping a pledge,

Her father's side kept their word to Quraysh

and her paternal uncles, if you trace her lineage, are Thaqif.

While her uncles were nobles of Thaqif
