    What a sin I committed—what a sin!

What a sin—were it not for fear of my Lord—

In staying at Tizanabadh for a day,

Followed by a night without drinking!

Then at dawn I drank it—potent wine,

Bewitching the self-restrained ascetic and stirring desire:

Wine that makes one shiver—you see it reckless,

    Yet forbearing, dispelling every sorrow.
