أَطَلتِyou have prolonged عاذِلَتيmy reproacher لَوميblaming me وَتَفنيديand censuring me
أَطَلتِ عاذِلَتي لَومي وَتَفنيدي
وَأَنتِwhile you جاهِلَةٌare ignorant of شَوقيmy longing وَتَسهيديand my sleeplessness
وَأَنتِ جاهِلَةٌ شَوقي وَتَسهيدي
My reproacher, you have long blamed and censured me,
My reproacher prolonged her blaming of me and refuting me
while you know nothing of my longing and sleeplessness.
While you remain ignorant of my passion and my glorification
لاdo not تَشرَبَdrink الراحَwine بَينَamong المُسمِعاتِthe singing women وَزُرand visit
لا تَشرَبَ الراحَ بَينَ المُسمِعاتِ وَزُر
ظَبياًa gazelle غَريراًguileless نَقِيَّpure الخَدِّthe cheek وَالجيدِand the neck
ظَبياً غَريراً نَقِيَّ الخَدِّ وَالجيدِ
Do not drink wine among the singing women; rather, visit
The gazelle with bright forehead and cheek does not drink happiness among the listeners out of blame
a guileless gazelle, pure of cheek and neck.
Bent with pain, he tells with his cheek the water of grapes
قَدindeed رَنَّحَتهُmade him reel شُمولٌwine فَهوَso he is مُنجَدِلٌsprawled
قَد رَنَّحَتهُ شُمولٌ فَهوَ مُنجَدِلٌ
يَحكيhe resembles بِوَجنَتِهِwith his cheek ماءَthe juice العَناقيدِof grape clusters
يَحكي بِوَجنَتِهِ ماءَ العَناقيدِ
Wine has made him reel, so he lies sprawled,
The trusted one stood up and enriched all the people
his cheek resembling the juice of grape clusters.
So no poor person remains in a state without finding
قامَarose الأَمينُAl-Amin فَأَغنىand enriched الناسَthe people كُلَّهُمُall of them
قامَ الأَمينُ فَأَغنى الناسَ كُلَّهُمُ
فَماso no فَقيرٌpoor person عَلىin حالٍany circumstance بِمَوجودِis to be found
فَما فَقيرٌ عَلى حالٍ بِمَوجودِ
Al-Amin arose and enriched all the people,
so no poor person is to be found at all.
