نَفسيmy soul فَداa ransom for ظالِمٍa wrongdoer يَظلِمُنيhe wrongs me
نَفسي فَدا ظالِمٍ يَظلِمُني
فيin كَفِّهِhis palm مُهجَتيmy lifeblood يُقَلِّبُهاhe turns it over
في كَفِّهِ مُهجَتي يُقَلِّبُها
Let my soul be ransom for a wrongdoer who wrongs me.
My soul for a tyrant who torments me
In his palm is my lifeblood; he turns it over.
In his palm my heart he turns over
ثُمَّthen تَوَلّىhe turned away غَضبانَangry يَحلِفُhe swears ليto me
ثُمَّ تَوَلّى غَضبانَ يَحلِفُ لي
كَفَرتُI have disbelieved بِاللَهِin God إِنif ذَهَبتُI went away بِهاwith it
كَفَرتُ بِاللَهِ إِن ذَهَبتُ بِها
Then he turned away, angry, swearing to me:
Then he turned away angry, swearing at me
“May I be a disbeliever in God if I have carried it off.”
By God, I have rejected if I take it
