أَما وَاللَهِ لَو جوزي

أَما وَاللَهِ لَو جوزي

تُ بِالإِحسانِ إِحسانا

تُ بِالإِحسانِ إِحسانا

Indeed, by God, had I been repaid

By God, if you repay

with kindness for kindness,

goodness with goodness,

لَمّا صَدَّ الَّذي أَهوى

لَمّا صَدَّ الَّذي أَهوى

وَلا وَلا مَلَّ وَلا خانا

وَلا وَلا مَلَّ وَلا خانا

the one I love would not have turned away,

he whom I love would not have turned away

nor—nor grown weary, nor betrayed me.

nor become indifferent or unfaithful.

رَأَيتُ الناسَ مَن أَلقى

رَأَيتُ الناسَ مَن أَلقى

عَلَيهِم نَفسَهُ هانا

عَلَيهِم نَفسَهُ هانا

I have seen that, among people, whoever casts

I have seen those who sacrifice

himself upon them is held cheap.

themselves scorned;

فَزُر غِبّاً تَزِد حُبّاً

فَزُر غِبّاً تَزِد حُبّاً

وَإِن جُرِّعتَ أَحزانا

وَإِن جُرِّعتَ أَحزانا

So visit at intervals, and you will be loved more,

visit the neglected, and you gain more love;

even if you are made to swallow sorrows.

and if you are made to drink sorrow,
