إِشربَب وَغَنِّ عَلى صَوتِ النَواعيرِ
ماnot كُنتُI was أَعرِفُهاknow them لَولاwere it not for اِبنُson of مَنصورِMansur
ما كُنتُ أَعرِفُها لَولا اِبنُ مَنصورِ
Drink and sing to the sound of the waterwheels.
Drink and sing to the voice of the flutes
I would not have known them but for Ibn Mansur.
I wouldn't have known them were it not for Ibn Mansur
لَولاwere it not for الرَجاءُthe hope لِمَنfor the one whom أَمَّلتُI hoped for رُؤيَتَهُseeing him
لَولا الرَجاءُ لِمَن أَمَّلتُ رُؤيَتَهُ
ماnot جُزتُI passed through بِغدادَBaghdad مِنbecause of خَوفٍfear وَتَغريرِand exposure to danger
ما جُزتُ بِغدادَ مِن خَوفٍ وَتَغريرِ
Were it not for hope in the one I hoped to see,
Were it not for hope in the one I wished to see
I would not have passed through Baghdad, because of fear and risk.
I wouldn't have braved Baghdad in fear and delusion
