ظَلَلتُ أَسأَلُ أَهلَ الحَيِّ جائِزَةً

ظَلَلتُ أَسأَلُ أَهلَ الحَيِّ جائِزَةً

وَفي المَراكي لَو جادوا بِها نُطَفُ

وَفي المَراكي لَو جادوا بِها نُطَفُ

I spent the day asking the people of the encampment for a gift;

I asked the people of the neighborhood for a prize

And in the basins were drops of water, had they but given them freely.

And in the meadows, if they were generous with it, dewdrops
