تَوَهَّمَ إِبلادَ المَنازِلِ عَن حُقُبِ

تَوَهَّمَ إِبلادَ المَنازِلِ عَن حُقُبِ

فَراجَعَ شَوقاً ثُمَّتَ اِرتَدَّ في نَصَبِ

فَراجَعَ شَوقاً ثُمَّتَ اِرتَدَّ في نَصَبِ

He dimly discerned the dwellings’ traces after an age;

He imagined the abodes of the dwellings from epochs gone by

so he renewed his longing, then fell back into weariness.

So he returned longing, then retreated in hardship

بِزَهمانَ لَو كانَت تَكَلَّمُ أَخبَرَت

بِزَهمانَ لَو كانَت تَكَلَّمُ أَخبَرَت

بِما لَقِيَت بَعدَ الأَنيسِ مِن العَجَبِ

بِما لَقِيَت بَعدَ الأَنيسِ مِن العَجَبِ

At Zahman—if they could speak, they would tell

If it could speak, it would have related

of the wonders they encountered after human company was gone.
