The ruins at al-Jalhatayn did not speak—

was their people's last sojourn recent, or long past?

Sarif is a dwelling for Salma; then al-Ẓah-

rān and al-Qaṣīm are dwelling places of ours.

Then the pool of al-Ashṭāṭ is a stopping place among them,

then at ʿUsfān is a well-known dwelling.

They departed the night the pilgrimage ended; among them

was a freeborn woman, graced with a radiant, lovely face.

Her family guards her against envious eyes,

so upon her breast are charms and amulets.
