إِنَّindeed النِساءَwomen إِذاwhen يُنهَينَthey are forbidden عَنfrom خُلُقٍa habit
فَكُلُّthen all ماthat قيلَwas said لاnot تَفعَلنَyou women do مَفعولُdone
Indeed, when women are forbidden a habit,
then everything they are told not to do is done.
وَماand whatever وَعَدنَكَthey promised you مِنof شَرٍّevil وَفَينَthey kept faith بِهِwith it
وَماand whatever وَعَدنَthey promised مِنَof الخَيراتِgood things تَضليلُdeception
And whatever evil they promise you, they fulfill;
and whatever good they promise is deception.
إِنَّindeed النِساءَwomen كَأَشجارٍlike trees نَبَتنَthey grew مَعاًtogether
فيهِنَّamong them مُرٌّbitter وَبَعضُand some of النَبتِthe vegetation مَأكولُedible
Indeed, women are like trees that have grown together:
among them are bitter ones, and some plants are edible.
وَلَيلَةٍand many a night مِنof جُمادىJumada قَدindeed سَرَيتُI traveled by night بِهاduring it
وَالزِقُّand the wineskin بَينيbetween me وَبَينَand between السَرجِthe saddle مَعدولُlaid
And many a night in Jumada have I journeyed,
with the wineskin laid between me and the saddle.
