حَيّواgreet حَليلَةَthe wife بَعلِهاof her husband سَلّامَهSallāmah
حَيّوا حَليلَةَ بَعلِها سَلّامَه
وَعَلىand upon الخَليلِthe friend مِنَfrom الخَليلِthe friend ذَمامَهa duty of loyalty
وَعَلى الخَليلِ مِنَ الخَليلِ ذَمامَه
Greet Sallāmah, her husband's consort.
Greet the wife of her husband, send her greetings
And a friend owes his friend a duty of loyalty.
And blame the friend for betraying his friend
بَيضاءُfair-skinned كَالوَرِقِlike silver coinage اللُجَينِsilver يَزينُهاadorns her
بَيضاءُ كَالوَرِقِ اللُجَينِ يَزينُها
وَجهٌa face عَلَيهِupon it نَضرَةٌfreshness وَقَسامَهand beauty
وَجهٌ عَلَيهِ نَضرَةٌ وَقَسامَه
Fair as silver coinage, she is adorned
White as the soft paper that adorns her
By a face radiant with freshness and beauty.
A face on which there is freshness and perfection
تِلكَthat woman الَّتيwhom أَصفَيتُهاI favored her بِنَصيحَتيwith my sincere devotion
تِلكَ الَّتي أَصفَيتُها بِنَصيحَتي
هَلis there بَعدَafter إِجهادِutmost exertion الخَليلِthe friend مَلامَهblame
هَل بَعدَ إِجهادِ الخَليلِ مَلامَه
She is the one I favored with my sincere devotion.
She is the one I chose with my advice
Is there blame after a friend has done his utmost?
Is there any blame after the friend's exhaustion?
وَعَدَتكَshe promised you بِالبَيتِby the House المُبارَكِblessed أَهلُهُits people
وَعَدَتكَ بِالبَيتِ المُبارَكِ أَهلُهُ
هَيهاتَfar away مَسكِنُthe dwelling مَنthe one who تَحُلُّshe dwells in تِهامَهTihāmah
هَيهاتَ مَسكِنُ مَن تَحُلُّ تِهامَه
She promised you by the House whose people are blessed.
Its people promised you the blessed house
Far away is the dwelling of her who lives in Tihāmah.
