أشكر ربي فشكره فرض

وقعت فاستقبلتني الأرض

وقعت فاستقبلتني الأرض

I thank my Lord, for thanking Him is a duty;

خاطرت لما ارتفعت في عبث

خاطرت لما ارتفعت في عبث

وذاك رفع من شأنه الخفض

وذاك رفع من شأنه الخفض

I took a risk when I climbed up in idle play,

I took a risk when I rose in idle play.

and that was an elevation whose nature was abasement.

And that was a rise whose nature is descent.

فاعجب لجسمي وثقل أعظمه

فاعجب لجسمي وثقل أعظمه

إذا لم يصبها كسر ولا رض

إذا لم يصبها كسر ولا رض

So marvel at a body—and at the weight of its bones—

So marvel at my body and the weight of its bones,

when neither fracture nor bruise befell them.

خفة رأسي لا شك قد نفعت

خفة رأسي لا شك قد نفعت

والبعض يحظى بنفعه البعض

والبعض يحظى بنفعه البعض

The lightness of my head undoubtedly helped,

and one part profits from the benefit of another.

And one part enjoys the benefit of another.
