Your protector from sickness and pain

is God, who suffices you against disease and weariness.

And how could Time be ungrateful to you, when you are its delight,

and you are its paradise for non-Arabs and Arabs?

And you clothed it in a crown of radiance, honoring it,

until it strutted in its new robes.

If its nights have broken with you, they have brought

only woe and destitution upon themselves.

Time will learn, if it does not withdraw its hand from you,

that it is gouging out its own eyes at close quarters.

For through you it has come, in its dealings,

to give and take amid events and calamities.

O Time, you have gone too far in the aggression you have inflicted.

O Time, enough! Turn away from those of noble standing.
