صِدتَ المَهَا وظباءَ الوحشِ راغمةً

صِدتَ المَهَا وظباءَ الوحشِ راغمةً

والطيرَ في جوِّها واللهوَ والغَزلا

والطيرَ في جوِّها واللهوَ والغَزلا

You hunted the oryx and wild gazelles against their will,

You have subdued the wild beasts and gazelles of the desert by force

and the birds in their sky, and pleasure and amorous dalliance.

And the birds in their surroundings, amusement and love

لازلتَ تصطادُ يا أَعلى الأَنامِ عُلاً

لازلتَ تصطادُ يا أَعلى الأَنامِ عُلاً

شُوسَ الرِجالِ وعِزّ الملكِ والدُّوَلاَ

شُوسَ الرِجالِ وعِزّ الملكِ والدُّوَلاَ

May you ever hunt, O loftiest of humankind in rank,

You still hunt, O highest of mankind in glory

the proud among men, the might of kingship, and dynasties.

The courage of men, the honor of kings and states

يا مالك الأرضِ بعد المالِكين لها

يا مالك الأرضِ بعد المالِكين لها

ويا إماماً على الرحمان مُتَّكِلا

ويا إماماً على الرحمان مُتَّكِلا

O ruler of the earth after those who ruled it,

O ruler of the land after its rulers

and O imam relying upon the Most Merciful.

And leader trusting in the Most Merciful

لا تَمَّم الله لِي في مدّتي أملاً

لا تَمَّم الله لِي في مدّتي أملاً

إن لَمْ تكن لِيَ فِيما أرتجِي أملا

إن لَمْ تكن لِيَ فِيما أرتجِي أملا

May God fulfill no hope for me during my lifetime,

May God not fulfill for me during my lifetime any hope

if you are not my hope in what I hope for.

If you are not for me in what I hope, a hope

إذا غدا كلُّ خَلقٍ عنك مشتغِلاً

إذا غدا كلُّ خَلقٍ عنك مشتغِلاً

غدا ودادك لي عن كلّهِم شُغُلاً

غدا ودادك لي عن كلّهِم شُغُلاً

When every creature is occupied with something other than you,

When tomorrow all creation is busy away from you

love for you occupies me to the exclusion of them all.

Your love for me will be busier for me than all of them
