قطعتَ بالعَتْب حَشاً لم يزل

قطعتَ بالعَتْب حَشاً لم يزل

يَقْطَعُه الفَقْدُ للُقْياكا

يَقْطَعُه الفَقْدُ للُقْياكا

With reproach you tore a heart that has never ceased

You cut off a love that never ceased

to be torn by being deprived of meeting you.

To be severed by your absence

لا تَتَّهمني بالجَفا ظالماً

لا تَتَّهمني بالجَفا ظالماً

حَسْبي من الأيام رؤياكا

حَسْبي من الأيام رؤياكا

Do not unjustly accuse me of coldness;

Do not accuse me unjustly of aloofness

the sight of you is all I need from life.

It is enough that I see you in my dreams

وكيف أنساك ولي مُهْجَةٌ

وكيف أنساك ولي مُهْجَةٌ

حياتُها ماءُ ثناياكا

حياتُها ماءُ ثناياكا

And how can I forget you, when I have a soul

And how could I forget you when I have

whose life is the water of your front teeth?

A soul whose life is your embrace

والله لا أَنْسَى له قَوْلَهُ

والله لا أَنْسَى له قَوْلَهُ

كَمْ تتناساني وأَرْعَاكا

كَمْ تتناساني وأَرْعَاكا

By God, I shall not forget his words:

By God, I do not forget his words

"How often you pretend to forget me, while I care for you!

How often you forget me and are diverted

إن كنتَ من نسل مُعِزّ الهُدَى

إن كنتَ من نسل مُعِزّ الهُدَى

كيف تُرَى في الحبّ أَفّاكا

كيف تُرَى في الحبّ أَفّاكا

If you are descended from Muʿizz al-Hudā,

If you are from the lineage of the guide to glory

how can you be seen as a liar in love?"

How could you be so fickle in love

فقلتُ لا أفضلتُ إن لم أَكن

فقلتُ لا أفضلتُ إن لم أَكن

مُقَبِّلاً من أجل ذا فاكا

مُقَبِّلاً من أجل ذا فاكا

I replied, "May I show no generosity if I am not

So I said, I would not prefer

kissing your mouth for this."

To kiss another pair of lips but yours
