When she gestured with jujubes upon ʿanam branches

toward me, while her tear was mingled with blood,

and unveiled her face, from which a moon appeared,

over it lay, from her evil, a dark veil of shadows.

I embraced her, and my tears within her eyes

poured down, and we kissed mouth to mouth.

As though tawny wine in her mouth had been blended

with delicious rosewater, cool and icy cold.

My love for your face, O you whom I have come to cherish in secret,

is my love for the recompense of bounty, liberality, and generosity.
