أرَقْتَ أمير المؤمنين دَمَ الفَصْدِ
Under an auspicious omen and a fortunate ascendant,
Upon the auspicious bird and the rising fortune,
You shed blood by bloodletting, Commander of the Faithful.
You shed the blood of the Commander of the Faithful with the sword.

In this, the star ran its course for you with good fortune, and turned
The stars aligned in your favor and bent down,
Upon all who opposed you, bringing ill fortune without good fortune.
Bringing misfortune without fortune to all who opposed you.

It was the perfume of your hands that dripped from that blade.

So may you remain a sovereign for as long as time endures;
You will remain forever the master,
And had I not feared the evil eye, I would have brought glad tidings of immortality.
And were it not for my fear of the envious eye, I would proclaim you immortal.
