The superiority of the morning draught over the evening draught is clear.

The water lily's signs attest to that.

It appears, when daylight spreads, with eyes

Blue and red, like the varied hues of gems.

And it dives beneath the water when darkness is about

To arrive, for fear of the sharp-eyed watcher.

Rejection is more like darkness and its sword,

And union is more like the brighter day.

So drink amid two dawns: the dawn of wine

And morning sunshine, and the radiant dawning of cheeks.
