The nights hurled their calamities at you,

Without deliberately targeting you, and without knowing.

So when they learned that their afflictions

Were mighty against one who did not deem them mighty,

And that their keen-edged swords had engaged you in battle,

And found you sharper than the keen-edged sword,

And more unyielding in affliction than their own calamity,

And braver in terror than a lion,

They turned their ill-treatment into a favor,

    For you, arrayed in blessings,

And gave you many times what they had made you lose,

And came to you in the guise of one surrendering.

And they did not betray you; rather, their betrayal

Was of their own lifeblood, though they did not understand.

May you be gladdened, O full moon of glory's horizon,

By your sun's giving birth to the stars.

She came to you with him, the best of those who lay claim

To glory, and the noblest of those who trace their descent.

He adorns the heights of honor and scatters bounty,

And dispels the blackness of the dark night.

So may you rejoice in him as long as the two Farqad stars rise,

And may you enjoy him for as long as Time endures.

And may you ever hold, in the glory of noble deeds,

The bracelet's place upon the wrist.

I repay you with praise before deeds,

    For your sweetest, noblest affection.
