    وحُرِّكِت الأوتارُ وارتفع الزَّمْرُ

    The garden, the meadow, and wine have come together;

    The strings have been plucked, and the piping rings out.

    Why, then, do you not set out for wine one morning,

    when drunkenness grants you all that you desire?

    Is life anything but a singing girl and wine,

    and a handsome cupbearer whose commands are never disobeyed?

    So seize what remains of life while you are still able,

    and while your years still draw life's reins for you,

    إذا ما انتشَوا لم يجر بينهمُ هُجْر

    with true-hearted young men, noblemen among your drinking companions:

    when they grow tipsy, no foul talk passes among them;

    generous and witty, their conversation never grows tiresome,

    and no arrogance touches them in their gatherings.
