She saw me smelling a rose in my palms,
She saw me, a rose in my hand I was smelling
And lovingly raising it to my eye and cheek.
And lifting with love to eye and cheek.
فقالتthen she said تذكَّرremember وجنتِيmy cheek باحمرارهby its redness
فقالت تذكَّر وجنتِي باحمراره
فقلتthen I said ولِمْand why لاnot يُذكَرis remembered الوَرْدthe rose بالوَرْدby the rose
فقلت ولِمْ لا يُذكَر الوَرْد بالوَرْد
Then she said, “Let its redness remind you of my cheek.”
She said "It reminds me of my red rose garden."
I replied, “Why should one rose not bring another to mind?”
I replied "Why shouldn't a rose remind one of a rose?"
