حداurged onward with song الفِراقparting فمهلاًso gently أيُّهاO الحاديcamel-driver
لاno شيءَthing أوجعُmore painful منthan بَيْنٍseparation وإبعادِand being sent away
Parting has urged us onward—so gently, O camel-driver.
O messenger of parting, go gently!
Nothing is more painful than separation and being sent away.
Nothing is more painful than distance and separation.
أَستودِعI entrust اللهَGod مَنْthose whom فَقِديmy deprivation لرؤيتهمْof seeing them
أمَرُّbitterer منthan فَقْدِdeprivation of شُربdrinking الماءwater للصاديfor the thirsty one
I entrust to God those whose absence from my sight
I commend to God those whom I miss seeing,
Is bitterer than a thirsty person's lack of water to drink.
More bitter than thirst in the desert for the wanderer.
لولاwere it not for دموعيَmy tears فيon يومthe day الوَداعfarewell إذاًthen
لأَحرقَتْwould have burned زَفَراتيmy sighs ثَمَّthere عُوّاديmy visitors in illness
Were it not for my tears on the day of farewell, then
If not for my tears on the day we parted,
My sighs would have burned those visiting me there.
My sighs would have set fire to the camp.
فإنْand if قَضَىdecrees بالتلاقيfor reunion اللهُGod ثانيةًa second time
فالشكرُthen gratitude أعظمُthe greatest ماwhat صيَّرتُهI have made it زاديmy sustenance
And if God decrees that we meet again,
If God decrees that we meet again,
Then gratitude is the greatest thing I have taken as my sustenance.
Gratitude will be my greatest provision.
