سُؤْلِ ممّا تشتهيِه

Life is but the fulfillment of de—

Life is nothing but fulfilling the

—sire for whatever you long for:

wish for whatever you desire,

ومُدامٌ تصطفيها

ومُدامٌ تصطفيها

وندِيمٌ ترتضيه

وندِيمٌ ترتضيه

wine of your own choosing,

and wine you choose,

a boon companion who pleases you,

and a drinking companion you approve of,

ورَخيمٌ ساحرُ المٌقْ

ورَخيمٌ ساحرُ المٌقْ

لةِ معدومُ الشَّبِيه

لةِ معدومُ الشَّبِيه

and a sweet-voiced one who bewitches the—

and a sweet-voiced beloved with a bewitching

—eye, without a peer;

eye, without an equal.

جَمَعَ التّفاحَ والرا

جَمَعَ التّفاحَ والرا

حَ بِخدَّيه وفِيه

حَ بِخدَّيه وفِيه

who gathers apples and wi—

He has joined apples and

—ne in his cheeks and mouth,

wine in his cheeks and his mouth,

نَزِقٌ عن عاذِلِيهِ

نَزِقٌ عن عاذِلِيهِ

صَلِفٌ في عاشِقِيه

صَلِفٌ في عاشِقِيه

petulant toward those who chide him,

Headstrong, turning away from his reproachers,

haughty with his lovers.

Haughty toward those in love with him.
