Leave aside the scolding women's words,

and pay no heed to the tale-bearers' efforts.

And drink the wine, and mingle it

    with fragrant front teeth.

And, if you wish, take as a relish

the apples from the gardens of cheeks.

    I, amid my drinking companions,

    my wine, and my cupbearers,

    am drunk, knowing neither sobriety

    nor the time for prayer.

And when drunkenness lulls me to sleep

    in such states,

nothing rouses me but the sound

of the lovely women's lute strings,

and their singing just before dawn:

“Give me the wine, by my life!”
