أماindeed والذيby Him who لاnot يملِكcontrols الأمرَall affairs غيرهanyone other than Him
ومنand by Him who هوHe بالسرof the secret المكتّمclosely concealed أعلمُknows best
Indeed, by Him who alone controls all affairs,
By Him besides Whom none doth command,
And by Him who knows the closely guarded secret best:
And Who is the most learned of hidden thoughts,
لئِنif indeed كانis كِتمانconcealing المصائبِcalamities مؤلمِاًpainful
لإعلانُهاsurely revealing them عِنديto me أشدّharsher وآلمand more painful
If indeed concealing calamities is painful,
If to conceal misfortunes be distressful,
Revealing them is surely harsher and more painful to me.
Yet I find revealing them more bitter and painful.
صبرتI held back patiently عنfrom الشكوىcomplaint حياءout of modesty وعفّةand self-restraint
وهلand can يشتكىbe complained to لدغَthe bites الأراقمthe mottled serpents أرقمa mottled serpent
I refrained from complaint out of modesty and self-restraint;
I have refrained from complaining through modesty,
And can one complain to a serpent of serpents’ bites?
And who would complain of the stings of scorpions but scorpions?
وبيand within me كلّall ماthat which يبكيmakes weep العيونthe eyes أقلّهthe least of it
وإنand even though كنتI am منهat it دائماًalways أتبسمI smile
And I bear every kind of suffering, the least of which makes eyes weep,
I bear everything that brings tears to the eyes,
Even though I always smile at it.
Though before others my countenance is ever smiling.
