بعثتُ بصفرة لونِ المحبِّ

وحمرةِ توريد خدّ الحبيبِ

I sent something with the yellow pallor of the lover’s complexion,

I sent a note the hue of a lover's complexion,

and the rosy redness of the beloved’s cheek,

And blush of beloved's cheeks when love is mentioned,

وأبردَ من لَثْم ثَغرِ الحبيب

وأبردَ من لَثْم ثَغرِ الحبيب

على مهجة المُستهام الكئيب

على مهجة المُستهام الكئيب

and more cooling than kissing the beloved’s lips

Cool as the kisses of lover's lips

to the heart of the lovesick, sorrowful one;

To cheer a longing lover's grieving heart,

ويَحْكي ودادَك في حسنه

ويَحْكي ودادَك في حسنه

ومحضَ وفائك طِيباً بِطيب

ومحضَ وفائك طِيباً بِطيب

and in its beauty it mirrors your affection,

Speaking of your affection in its charm,

and your pure faithfulness, sweetness matching sweetness.

And telling only of your faithful love.
