I go away, yet I have a heart that never ceases

Its nightly journeys and early-morning departures toward you.

But you are the sun: wherever I turn

On earth, its light accompanies me.

Whenever you have done me a kindness

    Whose beneficent influence grows immense,

I turn away in modesty, but they call me back—

Your virtues, whose goodness draws me back—

Just as, when he grows intoxicated, he seeks a cure—

The man made drunk by wine—with wine itself.
