أَرَانِيI find myself إذاwhenever هَذَّبتُI polished فيكabout you قصيدةًa poem
منof المدحpraise وَاتانِيcame readily to me الكلامُthe words المُهَذَّبُpolished
I find that, whenever I polish a poem about you,
Whenever I compose for you an ode of praise,
in praise, polished words come readily to me.
My words flow eloquently and smoothly.
وإنand if رُمتُI sought تقريظاًpraise لغيركfor someone other than you عاقَنِيhindered me
لسانيmy tongue ورَاحand came to القولُspeech فيهupon it يُكذَّبbe deemed false
And if I seek to praise another, I am hindered
But if I attempt eulogy for another,
by my tongue, and its words come to be deemed false.
My tongue locks up and my words ring hollow.
لأنَّكbecause you are مجبولٌnaturally endowed علىwith الفضلexcellence والعُلاand eminence
وأنّand that العطاياgifts فيكin you طبعٌa disposition مُرَكَّبingrained
For you are naturally endowed with excellence and eminence,
For you are inherently virtuous and noble,
and giving gifts is a trait ingrained in you.
Generosity ingrained in your very nature.
فيُمناكso your right hand غيثٌlife-giving rain فيamong البريّةcreation ساكتٌsilent
وعِرْضُكand your honor إصباحٌdaybreak ووجهُكand your face كوكبُa star
Thus your right hand is rain, silent among creation,
You are rain gracing the parched wilderness,
and your honor is daybreak, and your face a star.
Your face radiant as the glowing morning star.
فأنتso you are المُعَلَّىthe exalted one المُسْتَضاءُthe one drawn upon for illumination بنورهby his light
وأنتand you are المُفَدَّىthe one others would ransom المُسْتَطابُfound pleasing المُحَبَّبbeloved
So you are the exalted one, by whose light others are illumined,
You shine brightly with your own light,
and you are the one others would ransom, esteemed and beloved.
You who are most beloved and pleasing.
بكthrough you انصلحتwere set right أيّامُناour days بعدafter جَوْرِهاtheir injustice
وذلَّand was humbled الزمانُtime الجامحُheadstrong المُتَقلِّبfickle
Through you, our days were set right after their injustice,
Through you our days were set right after wrongdoing,
and headstrong, fickle time was humbled.
And unruly time itself was subdued.
فإنso if طابwas pleasant نَوْروزٌNowruz وعِيدٌand a festival فإنّماthen it is only
بنوركby your light أضحىbecame ذاthis one وذاand this one وهوand it is طيِّبُpleasant
So if Nowruz and Eid are pleasant, it is only
Nowruz and Eid shine brightly
by your light that this one and that one have become pleasant.
With your light, auspicious and joyful.
فعِشْso live تعمُرyou enrich الأوقاتَthe times عُمْرانَenrichment ماجدٍa noble man
فإنfor if لمnot تكنthey are معمورةًenriched بكby you تَخْرَبthey fall to ruin
So live, enriching the times as a noble man does;
So live, making the times prosperous with triumph!
for if they are not enriched by you, they fall to ruin.
For if not inhabited by you, they will fall to ruin.

God's blessings upon you, son of his Prophet,
for you are a sword tried and tested against calamities.
For you are the seasoned sword for every hardship!
