And one who marvels at my long endurance of what

    I suffer—grievous calamities—

Says, 'Will you not complain?' I said, 'When has

A polished sword, sharp on both edges, complained of blows?'

And surely a man who complains to one who cannot help

And freely reveals what is within him is truly a fool.

What has kept me from complaining to people is that I

Am ailing, and whoever I complain to is ailing.

And what keeps me from complaining to God is His knowledge

Of all that I suffer before I speak.

I shall be silent, in patience and hope of God's reward, for I

See patience as a sword with no notches.
