Sorely wounded, I am crushed by illness,
And in life I felt estranged by my woes, and in exile I accompanied my misfortune
and it assails my molten heart.

Barrenness afflicted me along with senility, I see them still in my train
and kept my misery company in my exile.
So youth is but dust in my palms

With the melodies of my well-tuned lute

تتعاوى مسعورةً كالذئاب
which nights scattered over calamities,
And the charm of my songs sounds sweet, so the responsive echo to it inclined
howling at one another, rabid as wolves.
And I compose anthems from the melting of a soul

تترامى بلاهب صخّاب
I fashion song from a soul's molten essence,
Spring of life threw it to sickness, so I lost my sanity
surging forth in a roaring blaze.
And I tossed in my place painfully, and with my patience I resisted affliction

its reaches spreading through my skin.
And my solace is beautiful patience from whose gentleness I weave the purest clothes

My malady seized my breast, yet I did not
Except my heart suffers what I suffer, so I came to beg my Lord for reward
take fright; so its reversals pursued me harder.
