    O songstresses of Olympus, tell me who

    were the chiefs and troops in that battle.

    لِلإِلاهاتِ كُلُّ عِلمٍ أُعِدَّا

    For you indeed know what is hidden;

    all knowledge has been made ready for the goddesses.

    عن خَفَايا الأُصُولِ نَقصُرُ حَدَّا

    We merely recount what is commonly reported;

    our reach falls short of the hidden origins.

    I would be overwhelmed, even with a heart of copper,

    and however hard I strained my voice.

    No—even if ten tongues cried out for me,

    I could not name and enumerate the multitudes.

    Yet the songstresses, offspring of the Lord of the

    shield, grant me aid if they wish.

    So I count only the number of the

    ships, and tally all the commanders in battle.
