Achilles said, “O Ajax, I see that you

have truly voiced what your wisdom holds.

But I have not forgotten how Atreides looks down

on me, as though I were a pilfering outsider among you.

Whenever the memory of that stirs my mind,

my heart blazes, and my breast is inflamed.

So go, you two, and convey this: I shall not rise until

the haughty foes wreak havoc before my tents.

Here, then, I shall face Priam’s son—no matter

how fiercely he charges, mustering troops and drawing blood—

after the Argives have perished in slaughter

and firebrands blaze on all the ships.”
