'hand,' 'blood,' 'stand,' then 'take,' among those enumerated.

such as a question [perhaps: a cough], sneezing, yawning,

there is an established, widespread dispute about it [reading uncertain],

but, by my life, it does not invalidate prayer in the confirmed view.

a meaning by convention, as stated at the beginning.

or its nature, such as clearing the throat—take note—

making it like a firmly established obligation.

Perform qunut sometimes, and at other times omit

it; you will prosper through the evidence and be guided.

Both doing it and leaving it are Sunnah, and both

have come from God's Messenger, if you are a follower.

is the practice of Muhammad, the best of all the worlds.

If you do not do so, watch for the sun

to rise a spear's height; then return and prostrate.

who prays those two units—I mean the mosque-greeting prayer.

    This follows the text's general scope, since nothing restricts it;

take the view of one who guides by the text and follows its guidance.

Are not obligatory prayers made up then, as in what

you heard in his verse, with its many examples?

Likewise, prohibition during the sermon is established—

the imam's—for anyone performing voluntary worship.

    But one who arrives then

prays the mosque-greeting prayer and does not sit down first.

that it must be designated as obligatory, following the text,

excepts the one who comes with an excuse; a text has come

specifying him alone: this is Ahmad's view.

Abu al-Abbas said: rather, that is permissible,

because of Mu'adh's practice with Ahmad's Companions.

He prays an obligatory prayer with them, and they owe an obligatory prayer,

although he had already prayed the obligatory prayer behind Muhammad.

praying Asr, without this being refuted.

The one protected from error fixed no distance

for breaking the fast or shortening prayer; are you a follower?

Making an intention to shorten a condition for permissible shortening

is a condition far from sound guidance, ill-directed.

Did [an unclear word] come concerning the intention to shorten it?

No text restricts it, when one begins

with entry into prayer, to shortening, from the master of creation.

Leave it and do not act upon it, and you will be guided.

on a sword, since no text supports this for one seeking guidance.

Rather, leaning is upon a staff

or a bow: this is the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad.

What the ignorant suppose—that his leaning

on a sword, as they claim, was intended as

a sign displaying the religion he brought—

is a claim far from sound guidance, ill-directed.

Placing a prayer mat in mosques is an innovation,

not part of upright, well-directed guidance.

and usurps it from an entering worshipper.

is like the prayer mat's ruling in innovating worship.

as 'restrict the count,' reject this by the text, guided one.

from Ahmad comes an explicit ruling of permission, so cite it:

If it is authentic, what is meant is exchanging it

for a forward contract involving something else; note this,
