Those fair in virtue, not those fair of arm,
The beauty of virtues, not the beauty of muscles,
Are the objects of my hopes and the refuge of my praises.
Is the quest of my hopes and the home of my praises.

For beauty is not, to my mind, complete and flawless
So beauty to me is imperfect when not made perfect
If it is not perfected in benefactions.
By righteous returns.

When the wealthy pride themselves on their boons.

The banner of praise for Ibn al-Kahil the mujahid.

None is like Michael, a succorer of one who seeks aid,
Nor a sea like Mikhail for one who comes to drink.
None is like Michael, a sea for one who arrives.

Accomplished, attentive to appeals, a generous lord,
A springtime, hearing supplication, a time of ruin,
His magnanimity cuts through hardships.
His manliness plunder for adversities.

If the pearl cave turns pale and its color yellows,
And if he boasts, the faces of the envious turn yellow.
And if the envious turn yellow-faced out of spite.

Yet did not swagger like Mars among the Faraqid stars.
And strayed not, like Mars, among the planets.

And, like the full moon, a lamp for night travelers and those at rest.
And, for wakeful and sleeping, a lamp like the moon.

I have cut with him the bond of hope in others,
