لسقام طرفي وارتعاش يميني
The strokes of my pen, O my masters, have become,
because of my ailing eye and my trembling right hand,
كخطوطlike the furrows of حارثone plowing بقعةٍa plot of land حجريةٍstony
كخطوط حارث بقعةٍ حجريةٍ
ماnot مُيِّزَتwas distinguished ألفٌan alif (Arabic letter ا) بهاin them منfrom سينa sīn (Arabic letter س)
ما مُيِّزَت ألفٌ بها من سين
like the furrows of one plowing a stony plot:
no alif can be distinguished from a sīn in them.

And the blame lies neither with my eye nor with my palm,
but with my seventy-seven years.
