صاح الهزار فهاتها يا صاح

لا عيش في الدنيا لصبٍّ صاح

The nightingale sang; so bring it, O friend.

There is no life in this world for a sober, lovesick lover.

واشرب مشعشعة كأن حبابها

ثغرٌ تبسم فوق خد رداح

And drink wine mingled with water, as though its bubbles

Were a smiling mouth above a full cheek.

أنت النعيم وفي النعيم يثيبنا ال

باري ويأمرنا بشرب الراح

You are bliss, and in bliss we are rewarded by the

Creator, who commands us to drink wine.
