The lovesick one's heart, as the caravans move on,

is a dove's heart, its wing broken.

O departing ones, when will there return to you

a moon whose couch is the throne of beauty?

Indeed, I hope for a visit from your fair young beloved

before the phantom comes, for his apparition is excused.

The year of separation has left me not a wink of sleep, and

his phantom has no camel but slumber.

May the All-Merciful never separate my love for you

from the life still in me; separation is bitter indeed.
