قضى الشهم إبراهيم صولة فاندبي

عليه ونوحي يا مروءة واغربي

Noble-hearted Ibrahim Sawla has died; so lament

The valiant Ibrahim passed away, so I wept for him

him and wail, O chivalry, and depart.

And cried, O nobility, depart! O stranger, flee!

ويا مهجتي ذابت عيوني من البكا

ويا مهجتي ذابت عيوني من البكا

فذوبي ويا نفس اذهبي ضاق مذهبي

فذوبي ويا نفس اذهبي ضاق مذهبي

And, O my heart, my eyes have melted from weeping;

And O my inner self, my eyes have melted from crying

so melt, and, O soul, depart—my path has narrowed.

So melt away, and O my soul, my path has narrowed, so begone!

ويا رحمة اللَه اسكبي ديمة الرضى

ويا رحمة اللَه اسكبي ديمة الرضى

عليه بفردوس النعيم المطيب

عليه بفردوس النعيم المطيب

And, O mercy of God, pour a steady rain of favor

And O God's mercy, pour the rain of sweet bliss

upon him in the fragrant Paradise of bliss.

Upon him in Paradise's fragrant gardens.

فقد قال لي يوم الفراق مودعاً

فقد قال لي يوم الفراق مودعاً

على رحمة الباري توكلتُ يا أبي

على رحمة الباري توكلتُ يا أبي

For he said to me on the day of parting, bidding farewell:

For the day we parted he bid me farewell, saying

"In the Creator's mercy I have placed my trust, O my father."

"I entrust myself to the Creator's mercy, O father mine!"
