Is it a moon guiding a gazelle by the reins,

Or a lion of battle training a young ostrich,

Or a horseman of the black steeds, urging on an eagle

From among them, outstripping flowing quicksilver?

Her hooves outpaced the reach of her gaze,

At leisure—what, then, when she travels in haste?

    فإن استوت فخريدةً مكسالا

    She rises, and eyes take her for a dove;

But when she stands poised, a languid maiden.

And she seems to have donned night's darkness and chosen

The crescent moon's circlet as an anklet for her leg.

Had his beloved's phantom eluded her rider,

And he ridden her by night, he would have caught up with it.

She was created unique, as al-Buraq was created,

Yet she surpassed him in beauty.

Glory to Him who made him and made her for her rider,

So that eyes might behold no equal to either.
