In the Foreign Ministry is a light that dazzles the eye,

making the two luminaries—the sun and the moon—blush.

A light begotten by the minister’s vision, just as

the sea brings pearls forth from its shells.

With it Rashid greeted the world, granting it the—

great triumph, and making its people forget their sorrow.

He left suffering no visible presence, no trace,

and left the night traveler neither fear nor wariness.

So exalted is He who fashioned him from the light of His mercy,

and fashioned triumph and victory from his two palms,

and, through you, lavished upon me—O you without peer

in all creation—a bounty that left the poets speechless.
